How to Make a Floating Cylinder Flower Arrangement

There's no rule that says a good flower arrangement has to include a robust and wide variety of flowers. There's also no rule of design or flower arranging that specifies only the stems of flowers can be submerged. Using cylinders and water creatively allows you to make a floating cylinder flower arrangement. Such an arrangement requires that you use a fraction of the amount of flowers you normally would and the water surrounding the petals of each flower enhances the colors and further softens the perceived textures.

Things You'll Need

  • Clear fishing wire
  • Scissors
  • Fishing drop weights, marble sized
  • Glass cylinder vase (same height as your chosen flowers)

Instructions

    • 1

Cut a 6-inch piece of clear fishing wire. Knot one end of the wire around the bottom of one of your stems of flowers and knot the other end around a drop weight.

    • 2

Tighten and adjust the fishing line so there is very little gap between the bottom of the stems and the flowers. Repeat this process with all the remaining flowers. You can have just one or two flowers in each cylinder or more. Generally, a good rule of thumb is to measure the diameter of the cylinder and not add more flowers than there are inches in the diameter. Thus a cylinder with a 6-inch diameter should have no more than six flowers.

Place the weighted flowers in the cylinder. Add decorative marbles or pebbles to the bottom to cover up the weights. Fill the cylinder with distilled water up to1/2 inch or so from the top, and showcase in your chosen area. The flowers will float gently in the cylinders, but not float to the top and ruin the display.
