How to Make an Oriental Flower Arrangement

Placing flowers in an arrangement is a little more complex than some would think, especially when you're going for a certain look. Of course, because flowers are so beautiful, almost any flowers in any container look great. But arranging flowers in a traditional manner is different from arranging flowers for a particular design genre, such as oriental decor. There aren't any strict rules when arranging flowers, but the techniques and materials you choose can help you achieve your design goal.

Instructions

    • 1

Obtain a tall, thin, clear glass vase. You can purchase a vase at most department stores.

    • 2

Gather together some oriental flowers. Purple irises go well with white lilacs. White lemon peonies blend nicely with orchids.

    • 3

Put the oriental flowers in the vase. Make sure the stems are long enough to reach the bottom.

    • 4

Fill the bottom of the vase with glass marbles. Place them carefully into the vase along the sides. Let them fall to the bottom.

    • 5

Place only a few flowers of each type into the vase. It isn't necessary to fill all the empty space. Oriental flower arrangements are created sparingly for best results.

    • 6

Add water to the vase until it is 3 inches from the top.
