Decorating Ideas for a Small Bedroom With a Queen-Size Bed

It can often be a challenge to design a small space. The challenge becomes even more difficult if you have a small bedroom with a queen-size bed. But by following a few simple tips and tricks, you can create a functional yet stylish bedroom that's not only cozy, but also one that can appear even larger than it looks.
  1. Walls

    • Paint a small bedroom with queen-size bed in a neutral or a cool color to make the room appear more spacious. Neutral colors for a small room include shades of white and beige, and cool colors include shades of blue, aqua, violet, green and purple. Another way to make a small room appear larger is by painting horizontal stripes on the walls. Give a small room the illusion of height, or having higher ceilings, by painting vertical stripes on your walls. Likewise, wallpaper with small prints can be applied to a small room with a queen-size bed. Avoid wallpaper with large prints as this makes the room appear smaller.

    Bedding

    • Avoid bedding with large prints on a queen-size bed in a small room because the room will look even smaller. Choose bedding in a solid color that's the same as the color of your walls or in a color close to it so that the room appears more spacious and balanced. But you also can use bedding with small prints or narrow stripes, which makes the bed appear smaller and won't be overpowering in a small space. Another idea is to mix and match bedding by using different colors, mixing prints in the same colors or mixing patterns with prints in the same colors.

    Furniture

    • Buy furniture that maximizes the space in a small room with a queen-size bed. If the room is large enough to have a desk and a chair, decorate with a clear acrylic chair. Being able to see through the chair gives the illusion of space. Hang a wall lamp on both sides of the bed if you don't have space for night tables. A vertical bookcase or wall-mounted shelves take up less space than a horizontal bookcase. Decorate with storage cubes, which double as seats and storage. Over-the-door storage also provides more floor space in a small room with a large bed.

    Accessories

    • Keeping accessories at a minimum in a small room with a queen-size bed gives you more space. If you don't have space for your belongings, such as books, store them in plastic bins under the bed. Hang one work of art that's proportional to the size of the wall rather than several works of art. Moreover, instantly make a small room appear larger by hanging a mirror on one of your bedroom walls. Likewise, limiting the number of throw pillows on your bed makes the room appear less cluttered and more spacious.
