How to Make a Hermes Costume

Hermes is the Greek god of trade, travel, and thieves. He is often depicted with a winged hat and sandals, and he carries a caduceus, a staff with two snakes entwined around it.

To make a Hermes costume, you will need:

* A white tunic

* A brown cloak

* A winged hat

* Sandals

* A caduceus

* A money bag

Here are the steps on how to make each part of the costume:

Tunic

1. Cut a rectangle of white fabric that is twice the length of your torso and as wide as you want the tunic to be.

2. Fold the rectangle in half lengthwise and sew the sides together.

3. Turn the tunic right side out.

4. Hem the bottom of the tunic.

5. Add a drawstring to the neckline of the tunic.

Cloak

1. Cut a rectangle of brown fabric that is twice the length of your torso and as wide as you want the cloak to be.

2. Fold the rectangle in half lengthwise and sew the sides together.

3. Turn the cloak right side out.

4. Hem the bottom of the cloak.

5. Add a hood to the cloak.

Winged Hat

1. Cut a circle of brown felt that is about 12 inches in diameter.

2. Cut two triangles of brown felt that are each about 6 inches wide and 12 inches long.

3. Sew the triangles to the circle of felt, one on each side.

4. Add a feather to the top of the hat.

Sandals

You can purchase brown sandals or make your own by gluing felt soles to a pair of flip-flops.

Caduceus

1. Cut a dowel rod that is about 3 feet long.

2. Paint the dowel rod gold.

3. Wrap two pieces of green ribbon around the dowel rod, one near the top and one near the bottom.

4. Glue two plastic snakes to the dowel rod, one on each side.

Money Bag

1. Cut a rectangle of brown felt that is about 6 inches wide and 8 inches long.

2. Fold the rectangle in half lengthwise and sew the sides together.

3. Turn the money bag right side out.

4. Hem the top of the money bag.

5. Add a drawstring to the top of the money bag.

Assembly

To assemble the costume, put on the tunic and cloak. Then, add the winged hat, sandals, caduceus, and money bag.
