How to Make Bracelets From Soda Lids

Do not toss those soda cans when the lids can be used to create bracelets. The tabs from soda can lids make distinctive bracelets to fit any size wrist. This eco-friendly craft project recycles aluminum and keeps it out of the landfills. Place a jar in your kitchen and ask family members to drop soda lid tabs in the container. Before long, you will have more than enough tabs to make bracelets for all your friends.

Instructions

    • 1

Measure 30 inches of cord using the tape measure. Cut with fabric scissors. Thread the cord from the underside of a soda tab into the top opening, over the center metal divider, then out the bottom hole. Slide the soda tab to the center of the cord. Point the sharp side of the tab down.

    • 2

Take another soda tab and place it behind the first tab with the sharp edges facing. Position the bottom tab so the edge is flush against the threaded cord and openings overlap. Pull the cord up through the bottom tab openings, then out the top tab holes.

    • 3

Place a third tab next to the first tab with the sharp edge down. Weave the two ends of cord through the tab openings as in the previous step, but this time thread through opposite openings to form an "X" pattern that will appear on the outside of the bracelet.

    • 4

Repeat the weaving process with a new tab on the bottom, another on the top and the "X" pattern to secure. Continue the pattern until the desired bracelet length for your wrist is reached. End with a tab on the bottom.

    • 5

Cut the cord and tie ends together to secure. Cut to the desired size and make a knot on one end if using non-elastic cord. Place on your wrist and use the knotted end to fasten to the other side.
