Unplug the Maytag Performa dryer from the wall outlet.
Remove the screws at the bottom of the front panel of the dryer.
Rotate the front panel away from the dryer and pull down to release the two clips at the top of the panel.

Remove the door switch wires from the clip on the left side of the bulkhead.
Remove the screws securing the bulkhead to the front of the dryer and set the bulkhead aside.
Look under the drum for the idler pulley. The idler pulley is a round plastic white disk, and the dryer belt is wrapped around it.
Note the threading of the belt to reference during reinstallation.
Push the idler pulley to the right, away from the spring on the side of it, to release the belt tension. Unthread the belt from around the idler pulley and motor shaft. Remove the belt from the dryer.
Lift the dryer drum and remove it.
Remove the "C" clip and washer from the middle of the front of the pulley using needle-nose pliers and remove the pulley from the dryer.
Wipe the idler shaft with a clean cloth to clean it. The idler shaft is the shaft on which the pulley sits.
Slide the new idler pulley onto the motor shaft and replace the washer and "C" clip.
Reassemble the dryer by reversing the steps taken to disassemble it.
Restore power to the dryer.
