How to Fix Front Loader Dryer Doors

Front-loading dryers need to have a good seal to keep hot air from escaping the unit during use. A good seal, as well as flush door placement, will prevent hot air from escaping, reducing energy use. An old door seal may begin to crack and come loose over time. A faulty strike plate will prevent the door from closing properly. These two parts cost little to replace and are available from your dryer manufacturer.

Instructions

  1. Strike Plate

    • 1

Unplug the dryer from the wall.

    • 2

      Open the dryer door.

    • 3

Remove the screws from the dryer door hinges. Pull the dryer door off the unit. Do not remove the door if it is round with a plastic window.

    • 4

Remove the screws from the outside of the dryer door. Pull the door panels apart.

    • 5

Squeeze the door latch with a pair of pliers to disengage the springs. Pull the old door latch out. Insert the new latch and reassemble the door.

    Door Seal

    • 6

      Unplug the dryer.

    • 7

Remove the screws from the ends of the dryer control panel, or slide putty knives under each side of the control panel to release it from the dryer body.

    • 8

Remove the screws from the top panel of the dryer. Lift the panel off.

    • 9

Pull on the bottom panel of the dryer. Remove the screws from the bottom of the front panel and pull it off with the door.

    • 10

Pull off the old seal from around the drum and clean any of the glue residue off. Place the new felt seal around the tub. Reassemble the dryer.
