My White Westinghouse Fridge Is Leaking From the Bottom

Warm Weather

• During periods of hot or humid weather, your White Westinghouse refrigerator must work harder to cool the air that enters the unit and keep the refrigerator cold. As the warm air passes over the condenser coil, condensation is created as the air is cooled, which can lead to excess moisture if there is a lot of warm air coming into the refrigerator. This can collect on the bottom of the refrigerator and even leak out onto the floor. Make sure the doors are closed firmly and raise the temperature in the refrigerator slightly to reduce the cooling load on the unit.

Crispers

• White Westinghouse refrigerators have humidity-controlled crisper drawers to store produce. However, if the humidity control is set too high, moisture can collect on the bottom of the drawers and leak out onto the kitchen floor. Dry off produce before putting it in the crisper drawer and set a paper towel on the bottom of the drawer to help collect any moisture. Set the humidity control to a lower setting.

Door Frame

• On your White Westinghouse refrigerator there is a switch located on the lower portion of the door frame between the refrigerator and freezer sections marked “Energy Saver.” If this switch is turned off and water is collecting on the door frame then leaking out of the refrigerator bottom, turn the switch on and wait 24 hours for the refrigerator to activate the door heater, which should control the condensation and reduce the leakage.

Drain Tube

• Sometimes the drain tube in the refrigerator can become clogged, which will cause water to back up out of the drain and onto the kitchen floor. You can clean this tube yourself by disconnecting power to the refrigerator then finding the drain tube on the wall or back of the refrigerator. The drain tube is an opening behind a small panel that will have to be removed first. Slowly start pouring hot water into the tube and wiping away the ice and water as the ice melts. Keep repeating this process until the ice is melted and the hot water runs down into the drain pan freely. Then you can replace the panel over the drain tube and reconnect power to the refrigerator.
