How to Winterize the Ice Maker on a GE Refrigerator

## How to Winterize an Ice Maker on a GE Refrigerator

Step 1: Turn off the water supply to the refrigerator.

>Note: If your refrigerator has a water dispenser and you want to continue to use it, you can skip this step.

Step 2: Open the freezer door and locate the ice maker.

Step 3: Pull the wire bail down to release the ice bucket, then lift it out of the freezer.

>Note: If your ice maker does not have a wire bail, you may need to use a screwdriver to remove it.

Step 4: Empty the ice bucket and wash it with warm, soapy water. Then, rinse it thoroughly and dry it.

Step 5: Remove the ice maker tray by lifting it up and out.

Step 6: Use a mild dish detergent to wash the ice maker tray and the inside of the ice maker cavity, then rinse everything with warm water and dry it thoroughly.

Step 7: Replace the ice maker tray into the freezer. If it has tabs that need to be lined up, make sure they are properly secured on both sides of the tray.

Step 8: Place the ice bucket back into the freezer and push the wire bail (or reinstall the bracket) to secure the bucket.

Step 9: Turn the water supply back on to the refrigerator.

Step 10: Press and hold the ICE OFF button on the refrigerator's control panel until the ICE MAKER light turns off.

_This will make sure the ice maker is completely turned off and prevent any damage from ice forming._

>*Once the ice maker has been winterized, you can unplug the refrigerator and move it to a storage location. Remember to drain any water that may have accumulated in the ice maker or behind the refrigerator to avoid mold and mildew growth.*
