Instructions

    • 1

Purchase the fan kit G for your Kirby G4 vacuum. This is the correct fan for newer-model Kirbys.

    • 2

Unplug the vacuum from the outlet to ensure there is no power going into the machine.

    • 3

Raise the height adjuster to its highest position by pressing down on the lever located behind the front left wheel.

    • 4

Lift the small crank on the front of the machine to turn the belt adjuster. Line up the red arrows so you can disconnect the power head. Unhook the latch where the head meets the machine. Pull the head off.

    • 5

Remove the bag and handle from the vacuum by pressing the button at the bottom of the handle on the back of the machine. Both the bag and the handle will snap off.

    • 6

Use a Phillips-head screwdriver to unscrew the two screws that are holding the back trim on. One screw is located just below where the handle was located and the other screw is just below the on-and-off switch. Pull the trim off and set it aside, along with the screws. Keep all of your screws separated as you remove them so you know where they go when you reassemble the machine.

    • 7

Unscrew the four body screws. Locate the two front screws where they hold the front trim on and the two back screws that were covered by the back trim.

    • 8

Lift the body straight up off the vacuum. This will expose the mechanical parts.

    • 9

Remove the five screws that are located on the front plate. This plate covers the fan.

    • 10

Insert a wrench onto the motor shaft to prevent it from moving. The shaft will be located to the right of the motor belt. Clamp down on the pulley at the front of the machine with locking pliers. Turn the locking pliers to the right to unthread the pulley.

    • 11

Pry the old fan off with two screwdrivers by pushing the flat edge behind the fan and applying pressure outwards.

    • 12

Install a new rubber gasket over the coupler where the old one was. Slide the plastic washer on and then the metal washer. Install the new fan.

    • 13

Screw the pulley back on to the machine.

    • 14

Apply a thin layer of gasket sealer on the back of the front plate, then screw in the five screws. Screw the metal body back onto the machine, then screw the trim piece back on the back of the machine. Reattach the handle and attach the power head. Line the green arrows back up and lower the height adjuster. Turn the vacuum on for a few moments to ensure the new fan is working properly.
