How to Install a Pressure Switch on a Newport Hot Tub

Newport is a brand of outdoor hot tub that operates with a pressure switch to activate the heater when water is flowing through the system. This is a safety feature. Water pressure activates the switch, which closes to turn on the heater and warm the swirling water. If no water pressure is in the line, the heater will not turn on. This also means the heater will not activate if the switch is defective. Replacing the pressure switch should take less than an hour.

Instructions

    • 1

Pull down on the lever on the electrical junction box connected to the Newport to shut off electricity to the hot tub.

    • 2

Open the access panel at the base of the Newport on the side of the tub below the control panel. Turn the knob on the panel 90 degrees clockwise to pull open. The cylindrical pressure switch is in the bottom right-hand corner.

    • 3

Remove the two screws holding the two yellow wires to the left side of the pressure switch. Make a note of which wire connects to which terminal on the switch.

    • 4

Grip the metal bas of the pressure switch with the adjustable pliers and twist counterclockwise to unscrew the part. Lift the entire pressure switch and tube at the bottom from the hot tub.

    • 5

Insert the tube on the new pressure switch into the opening and twist clockwise to secure the part. Tighten with the wrench.

    • 6

Connect the two yellow wires to their corresponding terminals on the switch and tighten the screws.

    • 7

Close the access panel and twist the knob 90 degrees to lock the panel in place.

    • 8

Push the lever on the electrical box to the upright position.
