How to Remove a Broken & Stubborn Spark Plug on a Sears Snowblower

Sears snowblowers and snow thrower machines are generally sold under the Craftsman brand. These pieces of outdoor equipment are powered by a gasoline internal combustion engine. This means the snowblower uses spark plugs to ignite the gasoline, causing a controlled explosion which makes the engine turn. Part of routine maintenance is to replace the spark plugs on a regular schedule. However, this simple task can become difficult and frustrating when a spark plug breaks and stubbornly remains in the engine block.

Instructions

    • 1

Coat the broken spark plug on your Sears snowblower liberally with penetrating oil. Let the penetrating oil soak for about 20 minutes.

    • 2

Select a bolt extractor that is large enough to fit over the broken spark plug. You may have to try several different sizes of bolt extractors before finding the right one.

    • 3

Fit the bolt extractor over the broken, stubborn spark plug and turn the bolt extractor counterclockwise. If the spark plug does not turn by hand, then use pliers to grasp the bolt extractor and turn it counterclockwise.

    • 4

Continue to turn the bolt extractor counterclockwise until it comes free from the snowblower's engine block. Grasp the broken spark plug immediately by hand after it comes out of the Sears snowblower.
