The McCulloch Mac 3214 was a smaller chain saw designed for home use. Its relative affordability made it a popular model for homeowners who needed to trim branches, cut down small trees or cut firewood. A number of Mac 3214s are still in service today, and you can sometimes find them in garage sales.
  1. Engine

    • The Mac 3214 has a 32-cubic centimeter engine with a maximum power speed of 8,000 RPM and a maximum speed without load of 11,000 RPM. The engine has a pull-starter, a 10-ounce gas tank and a 6.1-ounce oil tank.

    Bar and Chain

    • The Mac 3214 has a 14-inch cutting bar. It requires a McCulloch type-370 saw chain, which has a .05-inch gauge and teeth with a 3/8-inch pitch. The chain has 49 teeth, which may be sharpened with a 5/32-inch saw file.

    Torque Specifications

    • The standard fasteners on the Mac 3214's engine are Locktite 262s, which should be tightened to a maximum of 40 foot-pounds. The exception is the fastener holding the right housing to the crankcase, which can be tightened to 50 foot-pounds. Flywheel and clutch nuts should be tightened to 180 foot-pounds, and the spark plug should be tensioned to 150 foot-pounds.
