Instructions

    • 1

Wear protective gloves. Leather work gloves are ideal and will protect your hands, since the chain can cut you even if it is not moving.

    • 2

Release the tension on the chain saw by loosening the guide bar nuts with the screwdriver side of your chain adjustment tool. Turn the bar nuts counterclockwise on the guide bar. These nuts can be found at the end of the chain bar closest to the handle of the chain saw.

    • 3

Remove the bar nuts from the guide bar and take off the clutch cover, which is located just under the right side of the handle. Pull the guide bar back to loosen the chain in the guide bar groove. Carefully take the chain off the guide bar and place it to the side.

    • 4

Slide the guide bar away from the clutch drum sprocket. Turn the screws near the tensioning rack clockwise to move the tensioning rack to the back of the guide bar. Remove the guide bar from the base motor of the chain saw.
