How to Install a John Deere 210 Drive Belt

Before you can remove the mower deck from a John Deere 210 to access the pulleys on the deck or to replace the mower blade, you must first remove the drive belt that connects the mower deck to the output pulley mounted onto the driveshaft extending from the bottom of the John Deere's engine. The process for removing the belt is straightforward and once you are done, you will see that the process for installing the new belt onto the 210 mower is just as straightforward.

Instructions

    • 1

Put the John Deere 210 on solid ground and turn off the motor. Allow about 30 minutes cooling time if the engine is hot.

    • 2

Disengage the mower deck via the PTO lever. This stops the rotation of the PTO pulley mounted under the motor and releases tension on the drive belt.

    • 3

Raise the mower deck to its highest position, place a wood block under each side of the deck and position the deck onto the blocks by lowering it.

    • 4

Pull the hairpins from the linkage pins and pull the linkage rods off the linkage pins. Do this for the linkage rod in each of the four corners of the mower deck.

    • 5

Remove the belt guard from around the PTO pulley on the bottom of the engine with a wrench. Pull the belt off the PTO pulley and slide the mower deck from under the mower.

    • 6

Discard the old belt and place the new belt onto the pulleys. Follow the guide printed on the top of the deck for proper belt routing.

    • 7

Slide the deck under the mower and reconnect the drive belt to the PTO pulley. Reinstall the belt guard over the PTO pulley.

    • 8

Slide the linkage rods onto the linkage pins and reinstall the hairpins.
