How to Replace the Line in a Black & Decker Grasshog

Grass trimmers such as the Black & Decker Grasshog are handy for cutting grass in places you can't access with your lawn mower or tractor, such as along a fence, around a mailbox or near a flower bed. The trimmers work by spinning a nylon line at an extremely high speed so that it slices through the grass and weeds. Eventually, the string wears out and needs to be replaced.

Things You'll Need

Instructions

      Unplug the trimmer.

    • 2

Turn the trimmer upside-down and press in on the tabs on the trimmer head.

    • 3

Lift the cap off of the trimmer head.

    • 4

Lift the empty spool off of the trimmer head and clean grass and dirt from the spool and surrounding area.

Slide the new spool onto the boss, the part that spins the spool around. Use .065 inch round diameter nylon line.

    • 6

Hook the end of the trimmer line into the eyelets on opposite sides of the spool so they extend out about 5-1/2 inches.
