How Do I Change the Depth on a Huskee Rear Tine Tiller?

MTD and Murray manufacture Huskee rear tine tillers. The rear tine tiller uses a depth bar to help ensure tilling to a specific depth. The bar has five settings. The hole at the bottom is for a 6-inch depth, while the hole at the top is for transporting at zero depth. When changing the depth on a Huskee rear tine tiller, it is necessary to adjust the shields on the side of the machine. The shields help prevent rocks and debris from flying out while tilling the soil.

Instructions

    • 1

Turn off the Huskee tiller before adjusting the depth of the tiller. When adjusting the depth, you also must adjust the side shield next to the ends of the tines.

    • 2

Remove the clevis ring from the clevis pin on the depth bar. The clevis ring comes off like removing keys from your key ring. Pull the clevis pin out of the depth bar and adjustment hole while holding onto the top of the depth bar.

    • 3

Move the depth bar up or down as necessary to achieve the depth you desire. Moving the bar up will create less depth, while moving it down will create more depth.

    • 4

Insert the clevis pin through the adjustment hole and depth bar once you establish the depth you want. Insert the clevis ring into the small hole on the end of the clevis pin.

    • 5

Remove the bolt and washer on the front of the side shield with a wrench, and loosen the rear nut. Pull the front of the side shield away from the tiller, disengaging the adjustment pin from the holes on the shield.

    • 6

Move the shield up or down according to the depth bar setting. Release the front of the shield and allow the adjustment pin to protrude through the corresponding hole on the shield. Install the front nut and bolt. Tighten both the front bolt and rear nut. Repeat for the opposite side of the Huskee tiller.
