How to Change the Twist N Edge String

The Twist 'N Edge models of Weed Eater brand lawn trimmers come in three varieties: cordless trimmers, gas trimmers and electric trimmers. At some point, you'll have to change the trimmer line in your specific trimmer; how often you'll have to change it depends on how often you use your trimmer and the conditions in which you use it. Frequent edging, tall grass or thick weeds will go through more trimmer line and require more frequent changing.

Press and hold in the two tabs on either side of the spool cap. Pull the spool cap away from the machine hub. Remove the spool. Clean the spool and the hub, if needed.

    • 2

Cut a 26-foot length of 0.065 diameter trimming line. Insert one end of the line approximately ½ inch into the small hole on the inside of the spool, then wind the remaining line tightly around the spool in the direction of the arrow. Push the line into the notches, leaving 3 to 5 inches unwound.

    • 3

Insert the spool into the hub, lining up the cut-out part of the spool with the small hole on the hub. Remove the line from the notch and push it through the small hole on the hub.

    • 4

      Replace the spool cap.

    Gas Models

    • 5

Pull firmly on the tap button to remove the spool from the hub. Clean the hub and spool, if needed.

    • 6

Cut a 20-foot length of 0.080-inch-diameter trimming line. Insert one end of the line approximately ½ inch into the hole on the inside of the spool. Wrap the line tightly around the spool in the direction of the arrow on the spool. Push the line into the notch on the top of the spool, leaving 3 to 5 inches unwound.

    • 7

Push the unwound line through the exit hole on the hub, then align the spool so that the notch is even with the exit hole. Push the spool firmly into the hub until it snaps into place.

    • 8

Pull on the line so it snaps out of the notch.

    Electric Models

    • 9

Push in and hold the two cap-release latches on either side of the cap, then pull away from the hub. Remove the spool and clean both the hub and the spool.
