How to Install Toro LX460 Belts

The Toro LX460 is a standard lawn tractor with a mower deck mounted under it. The Toro belt that drives the mower deck off the motor is made of high-strength Kevlar. Expect the belt to last several years under normal conditions. The belt will likely dry rot before breaking. You can see dry rot because it looks like cracking on the V-groove side of the belt. When you see cracking, replace the belt immediately to avoid further issues with the mower deck.

Instructions

    • 1

Turn off the mower deck by placing the PTO lever into the "off" position. This helps to remove tension from the mower deck drive belts.

    • 2

Park the Toro LX460 on level ground and set the parking brake. Lower the deck into its lowest position.

    • 3

Remove the hairpins that hold the front of the deck to the underside of the Toro lawn tractor and then lower the mounting brackets.

    • 4

Remove the bolt that secures the back of the deck to the tractor and then lower the deck to the ground.

    • 5

Slide the mower forward slightly. Locate the PTO pulley on the bottom of the engine and pull the drive belt off the pulley. Slide the mower deck out from under the Toro LX460.

    • 6

Remove the bolts that hold the pulley guards onto the top of the deck and then pull the belt off the deck.

    • 7

Place the new belt onto the deck and then place the pulley guards on the deck and secure them with the bolts.

    • 8

Slide the deck under the Toro and place the belt over the PTO pulley.

    • 9

Lift the back of the deck up and slide the bolt through the mounting bracket that holds the deck in place. Secure the bolt with your ratchet.

    • 10

Lift the front of the deck up and reinstall the hairpins to hold the deck in place.
