Turn the Troy-Bilt mower off and allow it to cool. Ensure it's on a flat, even surface.
Open the hood of the Troy-Bilt mower and disconnect the spark plug ignition wire. This is the thin, black wire that connects into the rear of the spark plug on the side of the engine assembly.
Place the deck lift lever in its middle position to level the deck from the front to the rear.
Put on gloves and rotate the blade closest to the discharge shoot that is found lying parallel to the bottom of the riding mower. Measure the height of the forwardmost part of the blade from the tip to the ground.
Measure the height of the rearmost part of the blade from the tip to the ground as well.
Use a wrench to tighten or loosen the hex nut. You'll find the nut just below the Troy-Bilt mower's suspension arm on the bottom of the machine. Tightening the nut will raise the front of the deck; loosening it will lower the front of the deck.
Rotate the other blades that lie perpendicular to the lawn mower in order to adjust the Troy-Bilt mower's deck from side to side.
Find the hangar bracket on the left side of the machine near the perpendicular blades. Loosen the hex bolt here with your wrench.
Tighten or loosen the adjustment gear here with your wrench to either raise or lower the deck. Measure both perpendicular blade tips to ensure they have the same measurement to the ground. If they do not, continue to alter the deck via tightening and loosening the adjustment gear.
Tighten the hex bolt by the hangar bracket once you are finished with your adjustments.
Reconnect the Troy-Bilt mower's spark plug ignition wire.
