How to Wire a Huskee Riding Mower

Huskee riding lawn mowers are manufactured by MTD. They rely on the proper wiring of the spark plug, solenoid, starter motor and governor flap to ensure efficient and proper operation. None of these wires can be loose or disconnected. You can fix the wiring of your Huskee riding mower even if you have no experience with small engine repair.

Instructions

    • 1

Find the spark plug on the right side of the Huskee riding mower's Briggs & Stratton engine. Dinsconnect the thin, black spark plug wire from the rear of the spark plug before beginning your engine wiring.

    • 2

Look along the sides of the Huskee riding mower's battery. Two distinct terminal wires extend out of the battery. The red, positive terminal wire comes out of the left side of the battery, while the black, negative terminal wire extends from the right side. Follow the red terminal wire to the rectangular solenoid farther back on the Huskee's engine block. Ensure this wire is connected to the bolt on the left side of the solenoid. Slide the wire's open end onto the bolt, then tighten it into place by twisting the bolt clockwise with a socket wrench.

    • 3

Check the wire on the left side of the solenoid. The starter motor wire should connect to the solenoid's bolt here. If it does not, loop it over the bolt as you did with the terminal wire and tighten it into place with your socket wrench.

    • 4

Find the circular flywheel piece along the top of the Huskee riding mower's engine assembly. Take the bolts out of the flywheel's iron cover using the socket wrench, then pry the cover off with your hands.

    • 5

Look to the right side of the exposed flywheel for the governor's flap, which should be attached via a wire to a bolt beneath the flap. If this wire is loose, loop it back onto the bolt and tighten the bolt by twisting the socket wrench.

    • 6

Set the cover back onto the flywheel and insert its bolts using your socket wrench.

    • 7

Insert the spark plug wire back into the rear of the plug. Failure to do so will keep the engine from starting.
