• The MTD Lawnflite T450 is a gas-operated rear tiller with a chain and gear drive transmission and a 6.5-horsepower Briggs and Stratton Intek overhead valve engine. The gas-fueled Snapper RT8015 and RT9016 come with an all-gear transmission and an 800 and 900 Series Briggs and Stratton engine. The MTD T450 and the Snapper RT9016 each offers the most tilling width, or 16 inches. The tilling width of the RT8015 is 15 inches. The T450 includes individual wheel engagement and 14-inch pneumatic wheels for easy maneuvering in the garden. The 12-inch, self-cleaning, steel tines are heat-treated for easy ground-breaking. The double handles of the MTD T450 are height-adjustable. Snapper's RT8015 provides counter-rotating tines, while the RT9016 uses standard rotating tines.

• The T450 rear tine tiller provides easy garden maneuverability with its front and reverse drives for both the rotors and the wheels. The reverse drive helps break up compacted soil, while the forward drive retills the earth so that it's ready for sowing. The MTD T450 operates with a front-drive and reverse-drive remote throttle control and rear internal transmission, which also assists with garden maneuvering. When in the reverse drive, tines lift the soil rather than dig, which is useful in some garden conditions.

Snapper Benefits

• The Snapper rear tine tillers feature pin-lock hubs and a 10-inch tilling depth. The RT9016 model also comes with a brush bar and hiller/furrower. One of the most significant benefits of the Snapper rear tine tillers is the price and availability. Both the RT8015 and RT9016 are about half the price of the MTD T450 at the time of publication. • The MTD T450 rear tine tiller is available for purchase in the United Kingdom. At the time of publication, the MTD website does not advertise the MTD T450. The model is available for purchase on lawn and garden equipment websites in the U.K. The MTD T450 retails for around $1,600 (U.S. dollars), plus shipping, at the time of publication. Some dealers offer a one-year warranty. The Snapper RT8015 and RT 9016 rear tine tillers retail for $699 and $899, respectively. Both of these tillers are available from authorized Snapper dealers.
