Place the cultivator on a flat, level surface near the edge of the garden. Back the tractor up to the cultivator. Do not let anyone stand between the tractor and the cultivator while you are backing up to it.
Attach the cultivator to the three-point hydraulic hitch on the back of the tractor. The exact method for attaching equipment to your tractor will vary with the brand of tractor. Consult your owner's manual. Install the tractor's top link and insert the draw pins into the lower arm ball sockets.
Adjust the top link assembly until the cultivator is level and at the correct angle for your soil type. Raise the lift arm so the cultivator is out of the ground. Drive the tractor to the garden.
Lower the lift arm until the cultivator tines are at the correct depth and drive with the crop row between the cultivator tines at speeds of 2 mph to 4 mph. If your soil is too hard or dry, lift the arm so the tines are at half the desired depth or less and make several passes over the soil, lowering the arm more with each pass until you reach the correct depth.
Raise the cultivator every time you have to turn the tractor. This will prevent damage to the cultivator.
