How to Check Out a Safety Switch on a Troy-Bilt Riding Mower

Troy-Bilt riding mowers are large machines. Being so, they can be quite dangerous if used improperly. To prevent injury to the operator of the vehicle, a series of safety mechanisms are installed. Usually, safety switches are located under the seat. These safety switches work in conjunction with the blade control and the safety brake. If any of these items are not working properly, or not engaged, the mower will not start.

Instructions

    • 1

Set the PTO (or blade switch) to the "off" position.

    • 2

Set the parking brake to the "on" position.

    • 3

Sit on the seat and turn on the machine. If it does not turn on, there is something wrong with one of the safety switches.

    • 4

Open the electrical panel underneath the steering wheel and locate the safety switches.

    • 5

Pull out the electrical fuses using a fuse puller. Insert a new fuse for each safety switch, one at a time, to test each one. If the mower works after inserting a new fuse, you've located the problem.

Bring your Troy-Bilt to a certified service technician if the problem persists. Safety switches should be repaired by a professional.
