How to Make a Mosquito Net for an Outdoor Umbrella

Mosquitoes are bothersome little pests who also spread diseases such as the West Nile Virus. Taking precautions to protect your family from these insects will create a safer and more enjoyable outdoor environment. Adding mosquito netting to an outdoor umbrella is an excellent way cut down on costs and to protect your family from the potential health hazards associated with mosquito pesticides.

  • Outdoor umbrella
  • Mosquito netting
  • Hot glue gun
  • Outdoor outlet or extension cord

      Measure the width of each side of the umbrella.

      Measure the length from the edge of one side of the umbrella to the ground. Be sure the the umbrella is positioned upright and is even.

      Add 1 inch to the height and 2 inches width of the measurements. This will allow room to attach the netting to the umbrella and for the netting to overlap.

      Cut the mosquito netting into blocked sheets using the measurements from the umbrella. The netting for each section should cover from one side of the umbrella to the ground.

      Hot glue each separate sheet of netting to the inside of each side of the umbrella, overlapping the extra width onto the side on the right. Each side of the netting should overlap until it reaches the original point of application.
