Gardeners of all ages will enjoy creating flowerpots from a lightweight mixture of cement, vermiculite and peat moss. The cement mixture known as hypertufa was developed by European gardeners to mimic volcanic "tufa" rock. By making your own flowerpots, you can save money while adding your own artistic touch to your container garden. The flowerpots can be made from hypertufa in any size or form and cleanup efforts will benefit from a sand-cast method of construction.

Dry the flowerpot outside away from bright sunlight for three days. Pull the flowerpot from the sand and brush off excess sand.
