How to Make a Crib Tent Fit on a Sleigh Crib

Crib tents are designed to keep your child inside the crib or to keep your pet cat out. If your child climbs out of the crib or if your pet cat is prone to jumping in the crib, use a crib tent to prevent this behavior. Crib tents are now designed to adjust to fit a variety of crib styles including convertible and sleigh cribs. Measure your crib to find the crib tent that fits best for your crib because a properly fitted tent prevents accidents.

Instructions

    • 1

Measure the perimeter of your crib along the top edge. The tent you purchase should be as close to those measurements as possible. An inch or two bigger is okay since the tent will have adjustable straps to tie or adjustable Velcro attachments.

    • 2

Assemble the tent by either popping up a collapsible style or sliding poles through the casings down the center. Position the tent over the top of the crib, following manufacturer's instructions on which side is the front.

    • 3

Secure the tent to the crib rails with the straps. Each crib tent has different attachment pieces and instructions for attachment. See the directions for your tent.

    • 4

Unzip the crib door in the front of the tent and put your child in the crib to see if he's able to get out or loosen the tent.

    • 5

Secure the straps as tight as they will allow if your child is able to untie the tent or get out of it. The zipper on the door is on the outside, so the child can't unzip it, but if your child is able to move the tent around or get out, then you can try a different size crib tent or simply not use one. The Consumer Product Safety Commission has determined crib tents to be a safety hazard if the child can untie the tent or move it.
