Remove all upholstery tacks and staples from the couch with the needle nose pliers.
Take off the fabric and batting without ripping the fabric it so you can use it as a pattern for your new fabric.
Place the pieces of old fabric on top of the new fabric. Use it as a pattern and cut your new fabric to match the dimensions, adding two or three inches around the perimeter of the pattern.
Position the new batting on the couch seat, back and arms. Staple it securely to the couch frame with the staple gun.
Lay the new fabric over top the back of the couch. Tuck it into the sides. Staple the fabric to the back of the wood frame of the couch while holding it taut. Pull the fabric along the back of the couch and staple it to the upper part of the wood frame. Pull the fabric tight along the back and either side of the couch. Staple each side to the wood frame.
Place the seat section of the fabric over the seat of the couch. Pull the extra inches through the frame and under the seat; hold it taut and staple to the underneath side of the frame. Pull the sides of the fabric covering the seat under the frame and staple each side to the underneath part of the frame.
Put the fabric for the arm sections over each of the couch arms; fold a 1/3 section closest to the couch back forward and pull the fabric taught on each end. Staple the ends to the couch frame under each side.
Cut a slit along the center of the folded section so you can wrap it around the couch arm on either side and staple underneath the frame.
