How to Care for a Woven Fabric Couch

Woven couch fabrics are long lasting and durable. Some varieties resist stain absorption, making them excellent options if you have small children or pets. Caring for woven fabric includes keeping it clean and removing stains as quickly as possible. Some woven fabrics develop piles, which you need to remove to prevent the fabric from becoming warped any further. If your couch is used outdoors, part of the care is limiting sun exposure.

Instructions

    • 1

Place the couch out of direct sunlight since sunlight can fade colors in the fabric. If the couch is part of an outdoor furniture set, move it out of the elements when not in use.

    • 2

Vacuum the fabric with a brush attachment once a month or more frequently if you have pets that shed. Do not scrub the fabric with the brush, but just lightly pass it over the couch to remove dust and dirt.

    • 3

Remove woven fabric piles with a sweater shaver. Keep cats away from the couch because cats like the loops in the fabric, which serve as a scratching post.

    • 4

Mop up stains with a paper towel as soon as they occur. If the stain is absorbed, wipe the spot with a towel and soapy water of plain liquid dish soap. Rinse with a wet towel and let it air dry.

    • 5

Keep shoes off the couch. Do not let your dog on the couch because it may track dirt onto the fibers.
