Benches Made Out of Baseball Bats

Today sports fans are getting creative in making furniture out of all sorts of sports paraphernalia; among the most well known is the Muskoka or Adirondack chair made out of hockey sticks. For the baseball fan, a bench made of baseball bats can be a creative addition to an indoor or outdoor living space, and there are many ways to put one together.
  1. Materials

    • The most crucial material for your baseball bat bench is, of course, baseball bats. You will require 50 to 80 bats to make a functional bench for two, and you will want a majority of these bats to be the same size. Other important materials include nuts and bolts and polyurethane of some sort.

    Models

    • To make a bench completely out of baseball bats would be extremely difficult, and bats on the seat or the bench would not be comfortable. A better option is to make a flat seat for the bench from cut wood, and use the bats to frame the seat of the bench -- use them to make the back, feet and arms of the bench.

    Steps

    • First gather used baseball bats, and clean them of pine tar and dirt. Next coat the bats with a polyurethane, then let them dry. Fasten the bats together with your nuts and bolts in the pattern of the bench frame you desire. Insert the seat of the bench and fasten to the bats.

    Considerations

    • Used wooden bats can be hard to find in large numbers; it is smart to have a few people who spend time around baseball parks keep an eye out for you. Make or obtain detailed plans to construct a baseball bat bench before you begin to build one to avoid mistakes.
