- Cast-iron frying pan
- Vegetable oil
- Paper towels
Step 2: Prepare your pan
- Wash the pan thoroughly with hot soapy water and dry it completely with a paper towel.
- Once dry, apply a thin layer of vegetable oil to the entire pan, both the inside and the outside.
Step 3: Bake the pan
- Preheat your oven to 350 degrees F (176 degrees C).
- Place the oiled pan upside down on the middle rack of the preheated oven for 1 hour.
- Turn the oven off and let the pan cool completely in the oven.
Step 4: Repeat steps 2 and 3
- Repeat steps 2 and 3 at least twice more, or until the pan has a nice, dark black patina.
- The more times you repeat these steps, the more durable and non-stick the seasoning will be.
Step 5: Use and care for your cast-iron pan
- Once your pan is seasoned, you can start using it to cook your favorite foods.
- To clean the pan, simply wipe it out with a paper towel and a little bit of water.
- Never put a hot cast iron pan in cold water, as this can shock the metal and cause it to crack.
- To keep the seasoning in good condition, be sure to re-oil the pan after each use.
