Instructions:
1. Prepare the fireplace mantel: Remove any accessories or decorations from the mantel. Use a drop cloth to protect the floor and surrounding area from paint drips. Use painter’s tape to cover any areas that you don’t want to be painted, such as the fireplace opening or tile surround.
2. Sand the mantel: Use sandpaper to lightly sand the mantel to smooth out any rough spots. This will help the primer and paint to adhere better.
3. Apply primer: Apply a coat of interior latex primer to the mantel using a paintbrush. Allow the primer to dry completely according to the manufacturer’s instructions.
4. Apply paint: Once the primer is dry, apply two coats of interior latex paint in your desired color to the mantel. Allow each coat of paint to dry completely before applying the next.
5. Remove the painter’s tape: Once the paint is dry, carefully remove the painter’s tape.
6. Touch up any areas that need it: Use a small paintbrush to touch up any areas that need it.
7. Apply sealer: Once the paint is completely dry, apply a coat of sealer to the mantel to protect the paint and make it more durable. Allow the sealer to dry completely before using the fireplace.
