How to Make Large Pompoms

Making large pompoms is a fun and versatile craft that can be enjoyed by people of all ages. There are several methods to make large pompoms, but the following steps will guide you through one simple and effective technique using yarn.

Materials Needed:

Worsted weight yarn (or any yarn of your choice)

Scissors

A cardboard template (two pieces)

Pencil

Instructions:

Step 1: Create the Cardboard Template

Draw two circles on the cardboard pieces using a pencil. The size of the circles will determine the size of your pompom. For large pompoms, draw circles with a radius of about 3-4 inches.

Cut out the circles from the cardboard.

Step 2: Wrap the Yarn

Place one of the cardboard circles on a flat surface. Start wrapping the yarn around the cardboard, making sure to keep it taut and even. Continue wrapping the yarn until the entire cardboard circle is covered.

Step 3: Secure the Yarn

Once you've finished wrapping the yarn, secure it by tying a tight knot around the center of the wrapped yarn on the cardboard.

Step 4: Repeat for the Second Circle

Repeat steps 2 and 3 with the second cardboard circle. Make sure to wrap the yarn in the opposite direction of the first circle to ensure even coverage.

Step 5: Cut the Loops

Place the two cardboard circles together, aligning the wrapped yarn. Use scissors to carefully cut through the loops between the two cardboard pieces. Be sure to cut all the way around the circles.

Step 6: Fluff the Pompom

After cutting the loops, gently pull the pompom apart to separate and fluff the yarn fibers.

Step 7: Trim and Shape

Use scissors to trim and shape the pompom as desired. You can make it round, oval, or even give it a specific shape if you'd like.

Step 8: Enjoy Your Large Pompom

Your large pompom is now ready to be used in a variety of projects. You can add it to hats, scarves, blankets, or use it as a decorative element on bags, keychains, or even as party decorations.

Remember, the size of the pompom will depend on the radius of the cardboard circles you create. Feel free to experiment with different sizes and yarn colors to create unique and eye-catching pompoms for your craft projects.
