How to Score Cardboard

Scoring cardboard is a useful technique for creating crisp folds and bends in your cardboard projects. Scoring weakens the cardboard along a desired line, making it easier to fold without cracking or tearing. Here are the steps on how to score cardboard:

What you'll need:

- Cardboard

- Scoring tool (bone folder, butter knife, or other blunt object)

- Ruler or straight edge

Instructions:

1. Prepare your cardboard. Make sure the cardboard is flat and free from any creases or folds.

2. Mark the score line. Use a ruler or straight edge to mark the line where you want to score the cardboard. It's important to mark the line accurately, as this will determine where the fold will be.

3. Score the cardboard. Place the scoring tool along the marked line and press down firmly. The goal is to create a crease without cutting through the cardboard. You can score the cardboard multiple times if necessary to make a deeper crease.

4. Fold the cardboard. Once the score line is created, fold the cardboard along the crease. The cardboard should fold easily and cleanly without any cracking or tearing.

Tips:

- Use a bone folder or other blunt object with a smooth edge for scoring to avoid damaging the cardboard.

- Score the cardboard on both sides for a stronger fold.

- If you're working with thick cardboard, you may need to score it several times to create a deeper crease.

- Be careful not to cut through the cardboard when scoring.

- Practice scoring on a scrap piece of cardboard before working on your project.
