What Kind of Soil Does a Juniper Bonsai Like?

Bonsai growers often provide attentive care to their tiny trees, tending them with moisture, pruning and special soil conditions. Instructions

    • 1

Place one part peat moss, three parts coarse sand and six parts rich soil into the bucket. Depending on the size of your growing container, you might measure the ingredients in cup increments or larger. For example, 1 cup peat moss, 3 cups coarse sand and 6 cups rich soil would create the proper blend of materials.

    • 2

Mix the three different ingredients thoroughly in the bucket with your hands.

    • 3

Pour the mixture into the growing container to plant or repot the juniper bonsai. The combination of peat moss, sand and soil provides ample oxygen, adequate moisture and effective drainage.

    • 4

Provide water for the juniper bonsai when the soil dries. Juniper bonsais prefer dry soil rather than wet soil because continual moisture can lead to root decay.
