How to Store Fresh Bay Leaves

In the Refrigerator

- Wash the bay leaves gently and pat them dry.

- Place the bay leaves in an airtight container or resealable plastic bag.

- Keep the container or bag in the refrigerator for up to *two weeks*.

Freeze Them for Long-Term Storage

- Wash the bay leaves gently and pat them dry.

- Flash freeze the bay leaves on a sheet pan in the freezer for one hour, spacing them so they aren't touching.

- Transfer the frozen bay leaves to an airtight container or heavy-duty freezer bag. Be sure to label the container with the date.

- Fresh bay leaves will maintain their quality in the freezer for up to a year.

Bay leaves should be stored away from sources of heat and light. If properly stored, fresh bay leaves will maintain their flavor and potency for a considerable amount of time. Bay leaves are very sturdy herbs.
