Ingredients:
- Ripe bananas
- Olive oil (or another neutral oil)
- Cinnamon (optional)
- Sugar (optional)
- Salt (optional)
Equipment:
- Sharp knife
- Baking sheet
- Parchment paper
- Mixing bowl
- Paper towels
- Baking rack (optional)
Instructions:
1. Prepare the bananas:
- Peel the bananas and cut them into thin slices, about 1/4-inch thick.
2. Toss with oil and seasonings:
- In a mixing bowl, add the banana slices and drizzle them with olive oil. Gently toss the slices to coat them evenly with the oil.
- If desired, sprinkle the banana slices with cinnamon, sugar, and/or salt to add flavor.
3. Preheat the oven:
- Preheat your oven to 250°F (120°C).
4. Arrange the banana slices:
- Line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Place the banana slices on the prepared baking sheet, making sure they are in a single layer and not overlapping.
5. Bake the banana chips:
- Place the baking sheet in the preheated oven and bake for 2-3 hours, or until the banana slices are dehydrated and crispy. Flip the slices halfway through baking to ensure even cooking.
6. Check and adjust:
- Check the banana chips periodically and remove any that have browned too much to avoid burning.
- If your oven has hot spots, you may need to adjust the baking rack position to ensure even cooking.
7. Cool and store:
- Once the banana chips are done baking, remove them from the oven and let them cool completely.
- Store the banana chips in an airtight container at room temperature or in the refrigerator.
8. Enjoy:
- Your delicious and crispy banana chips are now ready to enjoy! They make a great snack, a topping for yogurt, or an addition to trail mixes.
