- Steak of choice (ribeye, strip, tenderloin, etc.)
- Salt and pepper
- Olive oil
- Butter (optional)
- Herbs and spices (optional, such as garlic, rosemary, thyme, etc.)
Instructions:
1. Prepare your steak. Pat dry the steak with paper towels to remove any excess moisture. Season the steak generously with salt and pepper on both sides. If desired, you can also add other herbs and spices to your steak at this point.
2. Heat your hot plate. Turn on your hot plate and set the temperature to high. Wait for the hot plate to preheat for several minutes until it is very hot.
3. Add oil to the hot plate. Once the hot plate is hot, add a drizzle of olive oil to the surface. The oil should immediately start to sizzle.
4. Place your steak on the hot plate. Gently place the steak on the hot plate. Be careful not to splash yourself with hot oil.
5. Cook the steak for 2-3 minutes per side. The cook time will vary depending on the thickness of the steak and your desired doneness. For a rare steak, cook for 2 minutes per side. For a medium-rare steak, cook for 2 1/2 minutes per side. For a medium steak, cook for 3 minutes per side. For a well-done steak, cook for 3 1/2 minutes per side.
6. Flip the steak halfway through cooking. After the steak has cooked for 2-3 minutes on one side, flip it over and cook for an additional 2-3 minutes on the other side.
7. Add butter to the steak (optional). If desired, you can add a pat of butter to the steak during the last minute of cooking. This will help to create a flavorful crust on the steak.
8. Let the steak rest for 5 minutes before serving. Once the steak is cooked to your desired doneness, remove it from the hot plate and let it rest for 5 minutes before slicing and serving. This will allow the juices to redistribute throughout the steak, resulting in a more tender and flavorful steak.
Tips:
- Use a meat thermometer to ensure that your steak is cooked to your desired doneness.
- If you don't have a hot plate, you can also cook your steak in a grill pan or cast iron skillet over high heat.
- Serve your steak with your favorite sides, such as mashed potatoes, roasted vegetables, or a salad.
