Add potting mix to the pot. For a large outdoor pot, fill the pot to within 2 inches of the top of the pot. This allows plenty of room for water for an outdoor daisy. For a small pot or indoor daisy, fill with soil to within 1 inch from the rim to give the plant plenty of soil to hold moisture in the small pot or heated indoor environment.
Tap the pot on the work surface to settle the soil and remove any air pockets. Don't compact the soil; leave it loose.
Use a trowel or your hands to make a hole for the daisy in the middle of the soil. Gently remove the daisy from its current container. Squeeze a plastic pot or six-pack carefully to release the plant, if needed. Usually a gentle tug at the base of the stem frees the plant if it's root bound.
Insert the daisy's soil-covered roots into the hole and gently press down the soil. Water the plant immediately with a watering can. With a watering can, you control the amount of water to make the soil moist but not saturated.
