How to Make Homemade Sauces

Basic Tomato Sauce

Ingredients:

* 2 tablespoons olive oil

* 1/2 onion, chopped

* 2 cloves garlic, minced

* 28-ounce can of crushed tomatoes

* 1 teaspoon dried oregano

* 1/2 teaspoon salt

* 1/4 teaspoon black pepper

Instructions:

1. Heat the olive oil in a large saucepan over medium heat.

2. Add the onion and cook until softened, about 5 minutes.

3. Add the garlic and cook for 1 minute more.

4. Add the crushed tomatoes, oregano, salt, and pepper.

5. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer for 20 minutes, or until the sauce has thickened.

Pesto Sauce

Ingredients:

* 2 cups fresh basil leaves

* 1/2 cup olive oil

* 1/3 cup grated Parmesan cheese

* 1/4 cup pine nuts

* 2 cloves garlic, minced

* Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions:

1. In a food processor, combine the basil, olive oil, Parmesan cheese, pine nuts, garlic, salt, and pepper.

2. Process until smooth.

Alfredo Sauce

Ingredients:

* 2 tablespoons butter

* 2 cloves garlic, minced

* 1 cup heavy cream

* 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese

* Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions:

1. Melt the butter in a large saucepan over medium heat.

2. Add the garlic and cook for 1 minute.

3. Add the heavy cream and bring to a simmer.

4. Stir in the Parmesan cheese, salt, and pepper.

5. Cook for 5 minutes, or until the sauce has thickened.

Marinara Sauce

Ingredients:

* 2 tablespoons olive oil

* 1/2 onion, chopped

* 2 cloves garlic, minced

* 1 28-ounce can of crushed tomatoes

* 1 tablespoon tomato paste

* 1 teaspoon dried oregano

* 1/2 teaspoon salt

* 1/4 teaspoon black pepper

Instructions:

1. Heat the olive oil in a large saucepan over medium heat.

2. Add the onion and cook until softened, about 5 minutes.

3. Add the garlic and cook for 1 minute more.

4. Add the crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, oregano, salt, and pepper.

5. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer for 30 minutes, or until the sauce has thickened.

Teriyaki Sauce

Ingredients:

* 1/2 cup soy sauce

* 1/4 cup mirin

* 1/4 cup sake

* 1/4 cup brown sugar

* 1 tablespoon cornstarch

* 1/4 cup water

Instructions:

1. In a small saucepan, combine the soy sauce, mirin, sake, brown sugar, and cornstarch.

2. Whisk in the water until smooth.

3. Bring to a boil over medium heat, stirring constantly.

4. Reduce heat and simmer for 5 minutes, or until the sauce has thickened.
