- 1/3 cup soy sauce
- 1/4 cup mirin
- 1/4 cup water
- 1/4 cup sake
- 1/4 cup brown sugar
- 2 tablespoons cornstarch
- 2 teaspoons grated ginger
- 2 teaspoons grated garlic
- 1 teaspoon sesame oil
Instructions:
1. Combine all ingredients in a medium saucepan.
2. Bring to a boil over medium heat, stirring constantly.
3. Reduce heat to low and simmer for 5 minutes, or until thickened.
4. Serve immediately.
Tips:
- If you don't have mirin, you can substitute with equal parts dry white wine and sugar.
- If you don't have sake, you can substitute with another dry white wine.
- If you don't have brown sugar, you can substitute with granulated sugar.
- You can adjust the amount of cornstarch to thicken the sauce to your desired consistency.
- You can add additional grated ginger and garlic to taste.
- You can add a few drops of hot sauce to give the sauce a bit of spice.
- Serve with grilled meats, poultry, or fish.
