How to Make Easy Homemade Scalloped Potato Recipe

Ingredients:

- 2 pounds potatoes (I like to use Yukon gold potatoes)

- 1/4 cup chopped onion

- 2 cloves garlic, minced

- 2 tablespoons butter, melted

- 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour

- 1 teaspoon salt

- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper

- 2 cups of whole milk

- 2 cups of chicken broth (I like to use reduced-sodium)

- 1 cup of grated cheddar cheese

- 1/2 cup of grated parmesan cheese

- Optional toppings: Panko breadcrumbs, chopped parsley, sliced almonds

Instructions:

1) Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F.

2) Using a sharp knife, slice potatoes into thin, even rounds of approximately 1/4-inch thickness. Do not rinse potatoes.

3) In a large bowl, combine sliced potatoes, onion, and minced garlic.

4) In a separate bowl, whisk together melted butter, flour, salt, and black pepper.

5) Slowly add milk and chicken broth to the butter mixture, whisking constantly to avoid lumps.

6) Add the prepared sauce mixture to the bowl of potatoes and toss gently to coat evenly.

7) Transfer the potato mixture to a greased 9x13-inch baking dish.

8) Sprinkle the grated cheddar and parmesan cheeses over the top.

9) Cover with foil and bake in the preheated oven for 40 minutes.

10) Remove the foil and bake for an additional 10-15 minutes until the potatoes are tender and the cheese is melted and bubbly.

11) Optional: For extra texture and flavor, sprinkle with Panko breadcrumbs, parsley, or sliced almonds before baking.

12) Let the scalloped potatoes cool slightly before serving. Enjoy!

Variations:

- To make a creamy sauce, add a splash of heavy cream along with the milk and chicken broth.

- Mix in cooked crumbled bacon or shredded ham to enhance the flavor.

- For a vegetarian option, omit the chicken broth and use vegetable broth instead.

- Feel free to add other seasonings or herbs, such as oregano, thyme, or paprika.
