- Hard-boiled eggs
- Food coloring, various colors
- White vinegar
- Water
- Spoons
- Cups or bowls
- Newspaper or plastic tablecloth
- Rubber gloves (optional)
Instructions:
1. Prepare your workspace. Cover your table with newspaper or a plastic tablecloth to protect it from spills.
2. Hard boil the eggs. Place the eggs in a saucepan and cover them with cold water. Bring the water to a boil over medium heat, then reduce the heat to low and simmer the eggs for 10-12 minutes. Remove the eggs from the heat and place them in a bowl of ice water to cool.
3. Prepare the dye baths. In each cup or bowl, combine 1 cup of warm water, 1 tablespoon of white vinegar, and a few drops of food coloring. Stir the mixture until the food coloring is dissolved.
4. Dye the eggs. Carefully drop an egg into a dye bath. Use a spoon to gently stir the egg so that it is evenly coated with dye. Leave the egg in the dye bath for 2-3 minutes, or until it has reached the desired color.
5. Remove the eggs from the dye bath. Carefully remove the egg from the dye bath with a spoon. Allow the egg to drain briefly before placing it on a paper towel to dry.
6. Repeat with the remaining eggs. Repeat steps 4 and 5 with the remaining eggs and dye baths.
Tips:
- To create a marbled effect, swirl the egg in the dye bath before letting it sit.
- To create a speckled effect, use a toothpick or fork to splatter dye on the egg.
- Be creative and experiment with different color combinations.
- The food coloring will stain your hands, so be sure to wear rubber gloves if you're worried about getting messy.
- Have fun! Dying Easter eggs is a great way to get creative with your kids and celebrate the holiday.
