Release the blade control and drive clutch levers to prevent the blades from turning and the mower from rolling when starting the engine.
Move the throttle lever to the choke position to warm up the engine.
Place your foot on the mower's deck step to help you gain balance while using your hand to get a firm grip on the mower's starter cord.
Pull the starter cord lightly until you feel resistance, and then pull hard to start the engine. Repeating this step a few times before the engine starts may be necessary.
Wait 3 minutes for the engine to warm up and then move the throttle lever away from the choke position.
Set the throttle at fast to mow or slow to idle.

Warm up the engine by moving the throttle lever to the choke position.
Turn the engine switch to the start position and hold it there until the engine starts. If the engine does not start within 5 seconds, release the switch, wait 10 seconds and try again.
Allow the engine to warm up for 3 minutes and move the throttle lever away from the choke position.
Set the throttle at fast to mow or slow to idle.
