Inflatable

• The cheapest hot tubs on the market are inflatables. Inflatable hot tubs are made from plastic, vinyl or nylon and seat two to four people. The advantages of inflatable hot tubs are their portability and simplistic installation since they do not require plumbing. Inflatable hot tubs, however, do not have the durability of other hot tub varieties. But they do require electricity. Wooden

• Wooden hot tubs offer their occupants a rustic feel and have an appearance similar to an empty, old-fashioned wine cask. Cedar, oak and teak are the primary types of wood for making wooden hot tubs. Both round and oval-shaped wooden hot tubs are available. Like other hot tub varieties, a wooden hot tub's size determines its pricing. The smallest wooden hot tubs have a 3-foot diameter and depth; these hot tubs are approximately $1,400 to $1,500. Acrylic

• Above-ground acrylic hot tubs are the most commonly seen varieties on the market. These types of hot tubs are a tad more expensive than wooden units, but acrylics provide massaging jets. Acrylic hot tubs are more difficult to install and maintain than wooden or inflatable hot tubs. An acrylic hot tub's jets run on electricity. The cheapest acrylic hot tubs are usually the smallest models, seating two to three people and having up to 12 jets. The prices for cheap acrylic hot tubs start at nearly $4,000.

In-Ground

• In-ground spas are the most expensive models to purchase because they require more difficult installation methods. Excavation, concrete, electric hookups and plumbing systems are all involved in in-ground spa installation. Of course, in-ground spas provide a more aesthetically pleasing look than above-ground hot tubs. Also, in-ground spas come in a variety of shapes and are usually larger than above-ground units. The price for the cheapest in-ground spas hovers around $10,000 to $15,000. Cheap in-ground spas are usually shorter in width and length than other models. Small spas are approximately 6 or 7 feet in width and length.
