Fiber-Optic Lighting for an Inground Swimming Pool

Among the various lighting options for inground pools, fiber-optic lights typically offer the most design possibilities. They're ideal for creating colorful effects for your pool area, but are also effective in tying together the pool and surrounding landscape elements. Fiber-optic lighting may also be a safer choice because the cables carry light instead electricity, which allows you to place the electrical components away from the water. Several different types of fiber-optic pool lighting are available, so you can create the ideal look for your pool.
  1. Perimeter Lights

    • Perimeter lighting is one of the most common types of fiber-optic lighting for an inground pool. As the name implies, the lights fit around the perimeter of your pool and outline its shape. This type of lighting is also an attractive option if your pool has an adjoining spa or hot tub you want to highlight. The lighting is also ideal for outlining patio steps that lead to your pool. Fiber-optic perimeter lights consist of cables that carry the light and tracks that hold the cable in place around the pool. The light is generated by a light source illuminator, where the cable starts and ends.

    Underwater Lights

    • If you prefer to illuminate your pool’s water instead of its perimeter, underwater fiber-optic lights provide an ideal option. The fixtures are mounted below the water surface so the light shines up through the water and illuminates the center of your pool. Underwater fiber-optic lights consist of an endglow cable that carries the light from the source illuminator, and individual lenses. The lenses are available in a variety of colors, so use a color other than yellow or white to create an interesting effect for your pool. Blue and green are attractive options, but shades like red, purple or orange provide a unique look for your pool.

    Landscape Lights

    • To dress up the patio, trees, plants or other features surrounding your inground pool, try fiber-optic landscaping lights to illuminate the items. Use fiber-optic pathway lights to illuminate the walkway that leads to your pool or have paver lights installed in your pool patio to light the surface. Flexible fiber-optic accent lighting is ideal for illuminating trees, shrubs and other greenery, because it allows you to adjust the fixtures to shine on specific landscape elements. As with underwater fiber-optic lights, different-colored lenses are available for landscaping lights to create unique effects for your pool area.

    Water-Feature Lights

    • If you want to give your inground pool a dramatic look, consider adding a fiber-optic water feature. Both waterfalls and fountains are available with built-in fiber-optic lighting, so the water itself appears to be colored as it streams into the pool. If you prefer temporary lights, choose a floating fiber-optic light fountain to add to the pool for parties and other special occasions. Fiber-optic water-feature lights are also available with rotating lenses, so the lights change color periodically for a festive, eye-catching look.
