- Quick-drying concrete mix (such as Sakrete)
- Crushed rock or gravel (any color)
- Rebar (optional)
- Wire mesh (optional)
- Paint (optional)
- Concrete sealer (optional)
Instructions:
1. Choose a location. The best place for fake rocks is near the edge of the pool, where they can be seen from both inside and outside the water. Avoid placing them in areas where people will be walking or swimming, as they could be a tripping hazard.
2. Prepare the area. Remove any grass or plants from the area where you will be placing the rocks. Tamp the soil down so that it is firm and level.
3. Build a form. If you want your rocks to be a specific shape, you can build a form out of wood or plywood. The form should be slightly larger than the desired size of the rocks.
4. Mix the concrete. Following the manufacturer's instructions, mix the quick-drying concrete mix with water. The concrete should be thick enough to hold its shape, but not so thick that it is difficult to work with.
5. Add the crushed rock or gravel. Add the crushed rock or gravel to the concrete mix and stir until it is well combined. The amount of crushed rock or gravel you add will determine the texture of the rocks. For a smooth finish, use less crushed rock or gravel. For a more rough finish, use more crushed rock or gravel.
6. Pour the concrete. Pour the concrete mix into the form and smooth it out with a trowel. If you are using rebar or wire mesh, place it in the concrete before it sets.
7. Let the concrete cure. Allow the concrete to cure for at least 24 hours before moving or painting the rocks.
8. Paint the rocks (optional). If you want your rocks to look more realistic, you can paint them with a concrete stain or acrylic paint. Be sure to use a paint that is specifically designed for outdoor use.
9. Seal the rocks (optional). To protect the rocks from the elements, you can seal them with a concrete sealer. Be sure to use a sealer that is specifically designed for outdoor use.
Tips:
- To create larger rocks, you can stack multiple forms on top of each other.
- To create more realistic-looking rocks, you can use a variety of different colors and sizes of crushed rock or gravel.
- You can also add other objects to the concrete mix, such as sand, pebbles, or glass beads.
- Be creative! There are endless possibilities for creating fake rocks for your swimming pool.
