Grants for Mound Systems in Wisconsin

Mound systems can be used on sites that might otherwise be unsuitable for septic systems, making them very attractive to rural homeowners. The installation and repair can be costly, however, which is why the State of Wisconsin provides grants for mound and septic systems.
  1. Background

    • Mound and septic system grants are funded through the Wisconsin Fund Grant Program. This program provides money to rehabilitate or replace failing mounds or septic tanks. The reimbursement amount is determined based on the size and type of the septic system.

    Requirements

    • To be eligible for a grant, the system must have been constructed before July 1, 1978, and no public sewer system must be available. The owner must also be a Wisconsin resident and must live on the property at least 51 percent of the year. Prior grant recipients are also ineligible.

    How to Apply

    • If you qualify for a grant based on the above criteria, go to your county department of sanitation. They will send an employee to verify your mound system construction or repair plan. After verification, they will forward your application to the state Department of Commerce.
