Check for a New York State or HUD seal on the home's exterior. Mobile homes built after 1976 were required to meet U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development standards that assure the structure is safe. Under HUD regulations, mobile homes that contain a state seal meet the same guidelines. In New York, that seal is issued by the Department of State's Code Enforcement Division.
Secure a location for the mobile home. Choose from the six mobile home parks within Niagara Falls' city limits. According to Lou Fontana, project manager for the Niagara Code Enforcement Office, mobile homes are not allowed anywhere outside of those parks, all of which are located on the city's east end. Contact one of those parks to inquire about available lots.
Obtain a New York State in-transit permit from the New York State Department of Transportation or the state Department of Motor Vehicles, depending on the size of your haul. Ask a clerk at a county DMV office for information on the fee structure and what information you need for the permit application.
