How to Get Rust Stains Off of a Dog's Porcelain Water Dish

With water constantly filling it, your dog’s water bowl is susceptible to being marred by unsightly rust stains, caused by high concentrations of minerals such as calcium and magnesium. If your dog’s porcelain water dish is the latest victim of this hard water’s unrelenting destruction, you don’t have to stand idly by. With the help of household products that are safe to use around your dog, this ugly stain can be removed.

  • Paper towels
  • Lemon juice or white vinegar
  • Clean cloth
  • Dish soap

      Empty out the water from the dish, and dry it out with paper towels.

      Fill the dish with lemon juice or white vinegar to cover the stain. If the stain is on the side of the dish or difficult to reach by this method, soak a clean cloth in white vinegar or lemon juice and place it directly onto the stain.

      Allow the stain to soak for at least 30 minutes.

      Wash the bowl with warm soapy water, and rinse it out well.

      Repeat the process of soaking with the vinegar or lemon juice and washing until the stain is gone.
